Professional solution for mine site carpets & upholstery – heavy soil removal, and rust stain treatment.

Mining environments create one of the most difficult carpet cleaning challenges. This guide outlines a proven, chemistry-led process to remove heavy particulate soil, embedded dust, and iron (rust) staining from carpet and upholstery—delivering consistent, high-quality results in high-contamination environments.

Designed for professional carpet cleaners and facility managers, this system increases productivity by solving a cleaning challenge most standard methods cannot.

Why Mine Site Carpet Cleaning Is Different

Mine site carpets and upholstery are exposed to:

  • Heavy particulate soil (dust, carbon, sand)
  • Insoluble contamination that resists standard detergents
  • Iron (Fe) contamination, causing brown or rust-coloured staining

Traditional carpet cleaning methods often fail because they rely on water-soluble chemistry, which cannot effectively remove or suspend this type of soil.

This process is built on the science of suspension, dispersion, and targeted chemical reaction—ensuring complete soil removal and stain correction.

The Process

  1. Remove Heavy Soil & Embedded Dust from Carpet

    1. Dilute Colloidal Boost, 1: 25 (50ml/Lt)
    2. Spray apply to carpet or upholstery
    3. Agitate with brush and allow 10 minutes dwell time.
    4. Extract rinse using Emulsifier Plus.

If staining still remains (which is quite likely), move to step 2.

  2. Remove Rust & Brown Stains from Carpet and Upholstery

    1. Dilute Grout Restore 20, 1: 10 (100ml/Lt)
    2. Spray apply to carpet or upholstery
    3. Agitate with brush and allow 10 minutes dwell time.
    4. Extract rinse using Emulsifier Plus.

Further Notes

  • Insoluble Soil Requires Suspension Chemistry

The soiling is different to regular soiling in that it is largely insoluble in water and chemicals. Hence the use of Colloidal Boost and Emulsifier Plus which have strong “suspension and dispersing” properties.  Step 1 is critical to remove as much of the insoluble particulate soiling typical to high sand/dust environments.

  • Removing the staining

The ingredients in Grout restore 20 react with the Fe irons which is what causes the brown/rust appearance. And will assist with removing residual staining.

  • Delicate fabrics & fibres

The method above is assuming the fabrics are all synthetic. If any are natural or delicate, please contact Actichem for further information.
