A tale of continuous innovation over two continents
In 1978, the Paynter family founded a company called Applied Products in Krugersdorp, South Africa. At that time our focus was on finding smarter ways to recycle and blend brake fluid for the automotive market. We were a little ahead of our time here – there may not have been language for what we’d now call sustainable principles at the time, but that didn’t stop us looking for smarter ways to deal with waste and chemical by-products. Soon enough we saw how we could apply our approach to manufacturing cleaning chemicals. Our wide range of cleaning products – developed through meticulous research and development – were a huge success in the institutional and industrial cleaning market. The business prospered and we soon had a proud distribution network established in nearly all major South African cities.
We were granted a license to manufacture the global-leading Prochem range of carpet and upholstery cleaning chemicals in the 1980s, firmly establishing ourselves as market leaders in South Africa and beyond.
Seeking a safer future for our family and our business saw us move to Australia in 1999, where we established Applied Products – Australia in the back of a friend’s warehouse in Newcastle, NSW. We set about carefully applying our expertise to modify and create new products suited to the Australian market, and by 2003 our business was bursting at the seams. A new purpose-built facility constructed to exacting standards was built at Holmewood Business Park in Beresfield to house our prospering business.
Today we proudly formulate and market our two key product lines as Actichem from this cutting-edge facility. Our commercial cleaning and stone and tile care product lines feature high quality products for use in janitorial, healthcare, disaster recovery, carpet and fabric care, and other commercial settings – and we’re still actively guided by our commitment to sustainability.
Our quest for continual innovation and improvement continues to this day as we manufacture high quality products at an excellent price, delivered quickly and accurately for your peace of mind. We’re bringing you smart chemistry that cares, with care.
